Café Nena'i

Austin's first South American bakery and cafe, from a Paraguayan-Argentine mother-daughter team.

The scoop

Café Nena'i is a South American bakery and coffee shop on Montopolis Drive in East Austin, decorated with exposed brick, antique chandeliers, and outdoor seating. The menu blends Paraguayan and Argentine baking traditions — empanadas, alfajores, chipa — with broader Latin American touches from Cuba and Venezuela, plus Cuban-style specialty coffee like cortaditos.

Co-owners and mother-daughter duo Elena Sanguinetti and Gladys Benitez opened the cafe in February 2017, drawing on their Paraguayan and Argentine roots before expanding the menu with Cuban and Venezuelan influences. The name 'Nena'i' is Elena's childhood nickname, meaning 'little girl' in Paraguayan Guarani.
