Community Garden

Acai bowls and espresso by day, natural wine and DJs by night in East Austin.

The scoop

Community Garden is a café-and-bar hybrid in East Austin's Chestnut neighborhood, serving açaí bowls and espresso drinks by day before shifting into a natural-wine and beer bar with nightly DJs after dark. Opened in spring 2023, it also houses a small record shop and doubles as a community art space, with a large plant-filled patio and weekly 'doodle nights.'

Owner James Harcrow, who runs the Austin underground-electronic-music label Growth in Decay (founded 2015), partnered with Coconut Club owners Brian Almarez and Cole Evans to open Community Garden on Cedar Avenue in spring 2023. Harcrow designed the space as a home for Austin's music and art community, pairing daytime açaí bowls and coffee with nighttime wine, DJ sets, and events like weekly doodle nights and record release parties.
