Epoch Coffee

North Loop's queer-owned, nearly-24-hour coffeehouse roasting its own beans since 2021.

The scoop

Epoch Coffee has anchored North Loop since 2006, roasting its own single-origin beans in-house on a zero-emission Bellwether roaster and pouring seasonal specialty drinks alongside East Side Pies pizza and pastries from local vendors. The flagship stays open nearly around the clock, doubling as a late-night study spot, rotating local art gallery, and proudly LGBTQIA+-inclusive gathering place built around the motto 'You Belong Here.'

Baristas Kevin Garry, Joe Rodriguez, and Chris Clarkson opened Epoch in North Loop in 2006, later joined by co-owner Randi Hensley, and grew the shop into a small Austin chain (The Village in 2013, later Far West) built around the unofficial motto 'You Belong Here.' Since 2021 Epoch has roasted its own single-origin beans in-house, and it has become known locally for vocal support of Austin's LGBTQIA+ community, including fundraising for groups like Out Youth and a majority-queer/trans staff.
