The scoop

Figure 8 Coffee Purveyors is a minimalist East Austin café in a 75-year-old house, built around a 30-foot wrap-around copper bar that puts baristas and guests face to face. Known for careful pour-over and espresso and its own line of single-origin roasted beans, it has grown from one Chicon Street storefront into a small local roasting and retail operation with a second Austin location.

Co-owners Ryan Hall and Kathleen Carmichael, both Austin natives and former baristas at Houndstooth and Cenote, opened the original 800-square-foot Chicon Street café in a converted 1940s-era house on August 11, 2014, preserving the building's original cement floors and exposed wood ceilings. The pair marked 10 years in business in 2014-2024 and later opened a second cafe on Airport Boulevard (November 2023), which added a natural wine program alongside coffee.
