The scoop

Flat Track Coffee is a 150-square-foot specialty coffee roaster and walk-up cafe on East Cesar Chavez Street, sharing its space with the Cycleast bicycle shop. They roast their own blends and single origins in-house and pull espresso for a community of cyclists, motorcyclists, and neighborhood regulars.

Childhood friends Sterling Roberts and Matt Bolick started Flat Track in 2012 as a mobile coffee-catering outfit before opening their first small shop in 2013 inside East Austin bookstore Farewell Books. In 2016 they moved into a larger shared space next to Cycleast bike shop at 1619 E Cesar Chavez, consolidating roasting and retail under one roof. Roberts has said the pair have no plans to open a second location under the Flat Track name.
