Mercado Sin Nombre
Mexican coffee and heirloom corn, ground fresh in East Austin's Holly neighborhood
The scoop
A tiny alleyway café in East Austin's Holly neighborhood built around Mexican specialty coffee and maiz criollo (heirloom corn). Beans are sourced direct from small farms in Chiapas, Veracruz, and Guerrero and roasted in Austin, while a from-scratch masa program turns out biscuits, pancakes, burritos, and pastries daily.
Mercado Sin Nombre began in 2020 as a farmers-market stand selling coffee and handmade corn tortillas, an outgrowth of the founder's master's dissertation work in architecture. It grew into a brick-and-mortar shop at 408 N Pleasant Valley Rd in 2024, and has since earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand (2025) and a James Beard Award semifinalist nod for Outstanding Bakery (2026). The name ("without name") is intentional: the site says it aims to highlight the growers and places in Mexico and Central Texas rather than the founders' own names.
