Sa-Tén Coffee & Eats

A Japanese-style kissaten serving espresso, tea, and all-day Japanese-inspired food.

The scoop

Sa-Tén Coffee & Eats is a Japanese-inspired coffee lounge and restaurant in Austin, serving espresso drinks and tea alongside Japanese-influenced dishes from breakfast through dinner. The name is short for "kissaten," the Japanese term for a coffee lounge, and the space doubles as a gathering spot with rotating local art. Its Springdale Road location sits inside the Canopy arts complex on Austin's east side.

Sa-Tén was founded by Moto Utsunomiya, known for his work with East Side King, and Kayo Asazu of Komé and Daruma Ramen. The two paired their restaurant backgrounds with a coffee-forward concept modeled on Japan's kissaten coffee lounges, and the brand has since grown to more than one Austin location.
