The scoop

Captain Quack's Bakery and Coffeehouse is the South Austin outpost of Austin's oldest espresso-bar lineage, pairing scratch-made pastries and specialty coffee with a full bar and an attached live-music venue, Soundspace. Expect breakfast tacos, vegan-friendly bakes, and near-nightly programming from trivia to live bands alongside your latte.

Quack's traces its roots to Captain Quackenbush's Intergalactic Dessert Co. and Espresso Cafe, opened by Art Silver on Guadalupe Street in 1983 and often cited as Austin's first espresso bar. The brand later grew into Quack's 43rd Street Bakery and Lady Quackenbush's Cakery before opening this South Austin location, Captain Quackenbush's Coffeehouse, on Menchaca Road in January 2020. Designed to feel like a classic Austin hangout, it has an indoor stage with neon lighting and is the only Quack's location licensed to serve alcohol.
