The scoop
A walk-up espresso and tea bar built inside the longtime No-Comply Skateshop on West 12th Street, pouring single-origin coffee, cold brew, and espresso drinks on a La Marzocco GS3. Fresh pastries are available daily with tacos on weekends. Idlewild also runs a second weekday walk-up counter inside the SXSW headquarters at 1400 Lavaca St.
Idlewild was founded by Jared Amburn, who had no formal coffee background but grew the concept from farmers-market pop-ups into a full walk-up bar embedded inside No-Comply, Austin's skate shop since 2007. Amburn has described approaching coffee with the same mentality as skating - 'It's a sport yes, but it's art. It's expression, and it's freedom' - and as of a 2024 profile the shop was still developing its own house roast.
